SAVE the dingoes by feeding them and keeping DERM away is the message from Division 7 candidate Gil McGlinn.

"The dingoes are slowly being starved out of Fraser Island," he said, and proposed that a feeding program be put in place to keep one of the island's main attractions.

"The dingoes are not a native animal to the island, so it should be allowed to feed them," he said.

Mr McGlinn said a supervised council feeding program should be set up, to keep the feeding under control rather than anyone being allowed to do so.

"You'd be fined by the RSPCA if you kept your own dog in the state those dingoes are in."

Mr McGlinn was outraged with the recent death of a dingo which choked on a pole noose in a DERM experiment.

"Someone needs to be charged over that," he said.

Mr McGlinn said it was important that Fraser Island remain one of the region's biggest drawcards.

He said he was already in contact with an international film crew who were interested in coming to make a documentary on the island and its dingoes for audiences of the Travel Channel in both the US and Canada.

With Fraser Island falling within Division 7, Mr McGlinn said if elected he had a number of ideas about its management.

"Part of the rates of everyone in the region goes into the upkeep of Fraser Island, so locals should be entitled to a discount if they are going to the island," he said.
