Nation’s first overnight humpback whale watching experience launched
The only whale watching experience of its kind in Australia can now be booked in the humpback haven of Hervey Bay after a yachting company scored the single government permit on offer.

The nation’s only private and skippered overnight humpback whale watching experience is being launched on the Fraser Coast.
Fraser Island Boat Charters, a family-owned yacht hire company, went through a rigorous Expression of Interest process in order to secure a permit from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, allowing them to conduct the unique activity.
Tourists can embark on either a three-day, two-night or two-day, one-night journey aboard their own private yacht, where they will experience the magic of up close and personal whale watching.
Guided by an experienced skipper, guests will explore the heritage-listed Great Sandy Strait.
“An overnight charter with Fraser Island Boat Charters will offer the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, with opportunities for close encounters with humpback whales, dolphins, and other marine life,” a statement from Fraser Island Boat Charters read.
“Whether you’re an avid sailor or a first-time explorer, our experienced skippers ensure a safe, informative, and magical journey through the heart of the Great Sandy Strait.
“This region is a critical habitat for humpback whales, providing a safe haven for mothers and calves to rest and bond.
“An overnight whale watching experience allows guests to witness these majestic creatures in their natural environment, fostering a deeper appreciation for marine conservation efforts.”
