HOLIDAY-makers on Fraser Island have been warned to look out for controlled burns from now until September.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service said it would conduct the planned burns in the Fraser Island Recreation Area during the cooler months.
"These burns will be under-taken in accordance with the Fraser Island Fire Strategy, for asset protection, weed control and conservation purposes," QPWS said.
The precise timing of burns cannot be predicted as this will be largely determined by weather conditions.
Residents with respiratory or other health problems that may be aggravated by smoke inhalation should take suitable precautions when necessary.
Motorists are being reminded to exercise caution on roads affected by smoke and to observe all road and track signage, and directions from QPWS staff.
Most importantly, QPWS has advised drivers to not enter roads or tracks that are closed.
