A 12-YEAR-old boy has been airlifted by RACQ CareFlight Rescue after a car crash at Fraser Island on Tuesday night.
It's understood a family of four from New South Wales was driving along the beach on the Eastern side of the island when the ute hit an area of water which caused it to become airborne, resulting in a serious accident.
The young man who was travelling in the back seat of the vehicle suffered lower back and seat belt inflicted injuries as a result of the accident.
He was treated on the island by paramedics before the CareFlight helicopter was called in to help shortly after 7pm.
He was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital with his mother at his side.
The patient travelled in a stable condition; the three other occupants of the vehicle did not require further medical treatment.
