Blackout at Kingfisher on Fraser Island lasted overnight

A BLACKOUT on Fraser Island saw Kingfisher Bay Resort and the surrounding village lose all power overnight.

A BLACKOUT on Fraser Island saw Kingfisher Bay Resort and the surrounding village lose all power overnight.

The power was restored late on Friday morning after going out at about 7:10pm on Thursday night due to an electrical fault in an underground main power line at North White Cliffs.

The resort's backup generator was also affected by the blackout, leaving staff members to cook dinner and breakfast on barbecue burners.

Diesel generators were brought in earlier on Friday morning to restore essential services and resort tours operated as normal.

Kingfisher Bay Group general manager David Hay has apologised to all guests inconvenienced by the outage and thanked them for their continued patience.

The resort's computerised reservations system was also affected by the outage and were restored at about 3:50pm on Friday afternoon.
