DIVISION 7 should become the Gateway to Fraser Island, said the latest candidate for the Fraser Coast Regional Council.
River Heads resident, Billie Rustin, said the area needed greater promotion from a tourism perspective.
With Division 7 running from River Heads up through Booral to parts of Urangan, Wondunna and Kawungan, Ms Rustin also put forward a number of ideas for both urban and rural areas of her nominated division.
Some of these include long term plans for investigation, such as the possibility of Hervey Bay Airport increasing to an international capacity.
Others are more linked to traditional areas of council attention, such as reducing rates for properties without all council services/facilities, like kerbing and guttering.
The establishment of an educative, Indigenous food area within the River Heads Reserve and the promotion of Indigenous history, culture and artworks were some of the other ideas put forward by Ms Rustin. Ms Rustin said she decided to run for council because she felt each division had issues peculiar to that area, and "only a local knows the real issues and the possible resolutions."
Ms Rustin is currently in her fourth term as president of the River Heads Progress Association.
Ms Rustin said she had plenty more ideas and plans, and welcomed anyone contacting her to discuss the future of Division 7.
"I can be contacted by email on billierustin@gmail.com or by phone on 0429 064 494 for anyone who has a particular issue they would like to highlight," she said.
