A Hervey Bay drummer has pleaded guilty to supplying a woman with meth.

Benjamin Andrew Geiger, 31, was sentenced in Hervey Bay District Court for one count of supplying a dangerous drug.

The musician, who up until June had played in a local pub band, sold half a gram of meth, the court was told, with his offending being uncovered as part of a wider police operation.

Geiger’s offending was the result of someone who had “fallen into the wrong crowd”, the court was told, and he had developed a quick affinity for using meth.

He had been born and raised in Brisbane and had the support of his parents, who he had been living with since he was charged.

He had ceased doing drugs when he returned to live with his parents.

Geiger was said to have obtained employment with a “rent a hubby” business doing maintenance service, and had long been part of the music industry.

A letter submitted to the court from a former bandmate spoke of his character and engagement with the community.

The court heard Geiger had started out using meth “recreationally” but had indulged more frequently when he moved in with others who used the drug and had more regular access to it.

“It’s an awful drug,” Judge David Reid said.

He encouraged Geiger to get back into his music.

Geiger was already on two six-month suspended sentences for previous offences, both of which were activated by Judge Reid.

He was given immediate release on parole and sentenced to three years’ probation.
