A generous and beloved nurse has been remembered for her selflessness as tears flowed at her funeral after she was tragically killed in a crash allegedly caused by a teen in a stolen car.

Humorous anecdotes and heartfelt memories have been shared at the funeral of a much-loved mum and nurse whose life was tragically cut short in a horror crash last month.

Hundreds of people poured into Hervey Bay’s Orana Chapel to farewell Sheree Robertson, 52, who was killed driving home from a shift at Maryborough Hospital on April 30.

Two other women in a separate vehicle – Kelsie Davies, 17 and Michale Chandler, 29 – were also killed in the crash on Saltwater Creek Rd, which was allegedly caused by a 13-year-old driving a stolen Mercedes.

A fourth woman, Kaylah Behrens, is recovering in hospital after waking from a week-long coma.

The funeral began to the heartbreaking strains of Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah, and the service was led by Jessica Kirk.

“Sheree left us far too soon. She had a lot left to accomplish and it is sad that she isn’t here with us,” Ms Kirk said.

“However today we shouldn’t focus on the grief but instead celebrate her beautiful life.”

Lloyd Lewis read a eulogy on behalf of the family, and said Ms Robertson had been born in Macksville where she loved going to the beach, before she moved to Caboolture.

Ms Robertson loved reading Stephen King and walking along Dundowran Beach collecting shells.

Wanting to do a nursing degree, she moved to Hervey Bay where her family could help her care for her son while she studied.

She worked at a nursing home before starting at Maryborough Hospital, where she quickly became a valued staff member.

“Sheree, you will be missed by so many, your laughter, personality will be with us, we will keep your memories close to our hearts for eternity,” Mr Lewis said.

Ms Robertson also wrote poetry with one of her poems shared by her sister Liesa Latimer.

A slide show of photos showed the life Ms Robertson lived, as the youngest of four siblings, a fun-loving friend, dedicated nurse, beloved daughter and devoted mum to Ben, 19.

Ms Robertson was affectionately known as the “bin chicken” on Ward 3, because she never hesitated to look through bins when items belonging to patients went missing.

“Sheree was always the first to do a thorough bin dive when a patient reported missing dentures, hearing aids or glasses regardless of whether they could remember having them that day or not. Hence she was given the bin chicken name,” one colleague said.

One nurse who worked with Ms Robertson said, “she always had a soft spot for those without relatives visiting them each day”.

“She was often the one to do their washing, buy them clothes when they didn’t have any or even bring in a cake for their birthdays.

“She often confessed that she got too close to some patients, but that was our Sheree.”

A moving letter from the family of a patient Ms Robertson had cared for was read aloud to those gathered.

Before the funeral service, Ms Robertson visited Maryborough Hospital one last time.

Her colleagues formed a guard of honour to pay their respects as the hearse carrying Ms Robertson was driven through the carpark outside the hospital before being driven to the chapel in Hervey Bay.
