An authentic Italian pizza place will soon open its doors in Maryborough, offering its customers “something different”. Meet the people behind the business:

Antonio's Pizzaria to open in Maryborough

A couple who moved to the Fraser Coast two years ago are in the process of opening an authentic Italian restaurant in Maryborough.

From pizza to pasta and salad, Tony Martinico loves cooking.

The passionate chef lived in Melbourne with his wife Rose May and their son until the two decided it was time for a change.

Rose had lived in Queensland before and wanted to return to the warm weather.

The two found the perfect property in Aramara and made the move.

They love living near Maryborough and believe they have identified a market gap with their freshly made dishes, which they intend to fill.

“We saw an opportunity,” Tony said.

“I’m trying to offer a point of difference.”

At lunchtime they will offer pizza that can be sold by the slice, with whole pizzas available to takeaway.

Tony estimates the business is still about four to six weeks away from opening, but already they had received a warm reception from the community.

The business is located at Maryborough’s Station Square Shopping Centre.

Tony had previously worked in hospitality, but had worked in other industries over the past 15 years.

The restaurant will offer a welcome return to his roots and he’s looking forward to cooking up a storm.

Renovations are well underway at their storefront next to the centre’s newsagency.

His wife is his marketing guru and designer, having come up with the logo displayed in their front window, making it very much a team effort.

Meanwhile, the couple are loving the change of pace in the Heritage City.

“There’s no traffic jams,” Tony said.
