Deadly bait-laced portions of meat have been found in parks around Maryborough, with a veterinary clinic posting a notice, warning dog owners of the dangers.
Maryborough Veterinary Surgery receptionist Liz Tiedemann said the clinic had been shocked to see the 10 balls of meat, which had been brought in by a man.
Slivers of green rat poison were found inside the compacted beef mince balls.
In the post online, the clinic said, “it has been brought to our attention that someone has been leaving baited meat at parks”.

It is understood the poisoned meat was found in a park at Baddow.
“Unfortunately, not much can be done to stop whoever is doing this so we ask everyone to please, if you take your dogs out for a walk, make sure they are on leashes or keep a very close eye on them when you do,” the post read.
“If you see any, do not let your dogs near it to eat it and if you are able to pick them up and dispose of them safely where your pets cannot get to it, you can also bring it into us and we get dispose of it for you.
“This kind of baiting is very dangerous to our furry friends and if left untreated, can lead to death.
“If your pet eats something like this, please give us a call straight away.

“Stay vigilant everyone and let's look out for each other.”
Ms Tidemann said it was “horrible and absolutely disgusting” to see someone place the poison baits in places where dogs were walked.
“It was just lucky someone was walking past and brought it in,” she said.
Ms Tidemann said to her knowledge, no animals had been made sick by the bails.
A warning was also shared to the Maryborough Community Facebook page where a concerned local said her neighbour had found the balls in the park behind Baddow House.
Many were outraged while some speculated the baiter may have been trying to get rid of foxes and feral cats in the area.
