2022 Fraser Coast Show set to draw big crowds

After months of uncertainty due to Covid mandates and floods, the Fraser Coast Show is set to return with a bang, with Sideshow Alley, the wood chop, exhibits, contests and a special appearance from a renowned horseman.

Renowned horseman Guy McLean will be one of the headline attractions at the 2022 Fraser Coast Agriculture Show.

Along with rides, showjumping, woodchop and craft displays, the legendary horseman, who hails from Susan River but has made a name for himself across the world, will bring his special skills to the crowds of the region’s show, which kicks off on Thursday, May 19.

After months of uncertainty leading up to the event, held annually at Maryborough Showgrounds, show president Scott Hillier said it was “coming together quite quickly”.

He said the show was now “full steam ahead” and crowds could look forward to be big rides, Sideshow Alley and exciting showbags as well as celebrating the region’s agriculture with displays of cattle, fruit and vegetables.

Mr Mclean’s appearance will be at the Southern Cross Xtreme Cowboy Racing, to be held on Thursday and Friday, May 19-20.

Also drawing the crowds will be the annual chainsaw race and woodchop, the light horse display, bull ride and Friday night’s rodeo, which Mr Hillier said would go ahead weather permitting.

This year the show jumping will be held under cover and will include the Queensland Country Showjumping Championships, bringing competitors from across the state.

A little red train will circle the venue to help people take in as much as they can.

Mr Hillier urged people to come along and enjoy themselves.

“We all deserve a break from the year of floods.”

Showjumping organiser Lyndal Roof said it had been a relief when the mandates were lifted and the decision was made that the show would go ahead.

She said strong crowds were expected for the event.

Tickets for one day entry will cost $40 for a family, $16 for one adult, $5 for children aged between 5 and 14 and $11 for concessions.

Children under 5 can enter for free.
