The owner of a superyacht fined for making a false border application pass after fleeing Covid-ravaged Sydney - and then went to a rugby Test in Brisbane is the director of leading audio visual company.

Jeromy Young was one of the four people onboard the 34-metre Dreamtime superyacht which arrived on the Gold Coast last week direct from Sydney’s escalating Covid crisis.

All four travellers have been fined more than $4000 and dragged into quarantine hotels, but not before attending last week’s rugby Test between the Wallabies and France at Suncorp Stadium with more than 17,000 other spectators.

The group have all returned negative results for Covid tests.

Mr Young is CEO of the ASX-listed Atomos audio visual company based in Melbourne.

Both Mr Young and his wife have been contacted for comment.

The movements of the four travellers found to have been on-board the Dreamtime – a 34-metre superyacht costing almost $20,000 a day to charter - have outraged Queensland Health and police officials after potentially placing thousands of Queenslanders at risk.

The men arrived on the Gold Coast on July 7 after sailing from Sydney and went straight to the Wallabies’ Test against France at Suncorp Stadium after filling in border declarations stating they had not been in a Covid hot spot.

Greater Sydney remains in lockdown with more than 100 new cases of the virus recorded on Monday.

The travellers were eventually confronted by officers from Queensland Water Police and Maritime Safety Queensland several days later.

The men have since tested negative to the coronavirus, but have been placed in hotel quarantine on the Gold Coast and fined more than $4000 each.

MSQ general manager Angus Mitchell said the agency was carrying out targeted intelligence-based and random vessel intercepts, assisted by water police, to keep Queenslanders safe.

“The message is clear, if you have been in a COVID-19 hotspot and you cross our maritime border, you will be intercepted and face the consequences,” he said.

“The Chief Health Officer declared the Greater Sydney area a COVID-19 hotspot backdated to 21 June as the COVID-19 situation continued to escalate and while that situation exists, MSQ will rigorously challenge any vessels planning to enter Queensland waters.”

Gold Coast Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman said the group’s behaviour was extremely disappointing and had placed the health of Queenslanders at risk.

“The majority of people do the right thing, but the ones who don’t are putting the Gold Coast community at risk,” he said.

“It’s disappointing and it’s another reminder for people entering Queensland that they must follow the directives of the Chief Health Officer in Queensland.”

MSQ also identified two other sailing vessels which arrived on the Gold Coast from the

Sydney hotspot last week.

A 68-year-old skipper was placed in government hotel quarantine and issued with a $4003 fine for failing to comply with a COVID-19 border direction while another skipper was fined $4003 and turned around at the border.
