A new chief operating officer position has been created in Queensland Health and will be filled by the former boss of the state’s largest hospital and health service.
Shaun Drummond, who was Metro North’s chief executive before resigning earlier this year to join Deloitte, will start in the new role on January 4.
Mr Drummond will work alongside Director-General John Wakefield and will focus on operational delivery of the state’s 16 HHS’ and the Queensland Ambulance Service.
“The addition of a chief operating officer role to Queensland Health will ensure we are able to remain equally focused on delivering high quality and cost-effective health services that meet the needs of our patients, while continuing to manage the Covid-19 response,” a Queensland Health spokeswoman said.
But Queensland Health refused to say how much the new role was paying.
Mr Drummond began as a partner with Deloitte leading their National Hospital Financial and Transformation practice in July.
He will take a 12 month leave of absence from that role.
