Former state member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey has revealed her cancer diagnosis, calling it an “unwelcome surprise”.
The former Gold Coast politician posted to her Facebook page on Monday night, saying last month doctors had found a “small cancerous tumour” in her pancreas.
“News will no doubt filter out about my health so I have decided to put out a statement,” she wrote.
“After an emergency cholecystectomy to remove a blocked, infected gall bladder on June 26 a very small cancerous tumour was discovered hiding in my pancreas.
“Today I commenced a vigorous course of chemotherapy to give me the best chance for surgery in a few month’s time.”
Ms Stuckey said she was approaching treatment with optimism and asked for “positive vibes” from her friends and colleagues.
In 2020, the LNP representative announced her resignation from parliament revealing her battle with depression.
At the time, Ms Stuckey said in a statement that she was “swamped by the black cloud” and that being “ridiculed and abused for standing up for my community” was “taking its toll”.
