As one of the worst flu seasons on record tears through Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced an extension of its free flu vaccinations scheme.

Speaking at a press conference where she was grilled over the findings of the Coaldrake Review into her government’s integrity, Ms Palaszczuk concluded by saying the June 30 deadline for the free jabs had been lengthened by two weeks.

She said almost 650,000 Queenslanders had already rolled up their sleeves for the free shot.

“I understand that it’s school holidays at the moment, people might not have had the opportunity to take their children or themselves to get that free flu vaccine so we’re extending it until the 17th of July.”

This year, more than 29,000 Queenslanders have been afflicted with the flu, according to latest health department data, and more than 30000 have been hospitalised because of it.
