First taste of Summer hits as heatwave roasts Brisbane

South East Queensland residents are getting their first taste of Summer this weekend with the sunshine state recording maximum temperatures in the high 30s.

South East Queensland residents are getting their first taste of Summer with the sunshine state already recording maximum temperatures in the high thirties.

The Bureau of Meteorology on Thursday announced that a heatwave warning for parts of north Queensland will remain in place until Sunday.

Meanwhile, Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane, is currently recording maximum temperatures in the low thirties with temperatures set to drop from Tuesday.

“Maximum temperatures over north Queensland are expected to be in the high thirties to low forties through inland areas and in the mid thirties near the coast over coming days,” the warning read.

“Minimum overnight temperatures in the mid twenties are expected.

“Locations likely to be impacted include Coen, Croydon, Cooktown, Hope Vale, Kowanyama, Lockhart River, Mareeba, Normanton and Weipa.”

According to The Bureau the latest daily maximum temperatures (October 26) include Julia Creek (39.9), Birdsville (39.7) and Mareeba (38.1).
