Expect a new level of beachside drama when the Queensland-made season of The Wilds drops on Amazon Prime Video in May.
Along with sharing first look images on Wednesday, the streaming service announced that season two of the series, which was filmed on location on the Gold Coast last year, will air across 240 countries from May 6.
The dystopian drama, which stars Rachel Griffiths, Mia Healey and Shannon Berry, shifted to Queensland from New Zealand following a $9.8 million funding injection from the Federal Government and support from Screen Queensland.
Filmed across the Gold Coast Hinterland and local beaches last April, season two continues to follow the group of teenage girls stranded on a deserted island as part of a cruel social experiment, except now a set of teenage boys must also fight for survival under the watchful eye of the experiment’s puppet master.
Australian actor Nicholas Coombe, who also starred in Dora and the Lost City of Gold on the Gold Coast, landed a role as one of the new castaways.
The production, which engaged local production company Hoodlum Entertainment to assist with filming, was expected to bring investment of more than $73 million to the Australia economy and create more than 270 jobs for cast and crew.
