Fire crews rushed on Tuesday morning to contain a car on fire under a derelict building in Brisbane’s south.

The abandoned building is known as the West End DIY skate park.

At least three Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews had been dispatched to Hockings Street in South Brisbane by 9.40am, after the incident was initially reported about 9.15am.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, with police in attendance confirming they are working to determine whether it is suspicious.

A group of officers began inspecting the buildings surrounds as they taped off the entrances.

As the firefighters cleaned the scene a police officer could be seen inspecting a burnt out SUV.

The blaze, which is believed to have destroyed the vehicle in question, was brought under control about 9.30am.
