Fire claims house on Grubb St in Koongal

A blaze has torn through a central Queensland house, causing the entire building to collapse.

Fire has ravaged a Queensland home Saturday night, destroying it.

Crews were called to Grubb St in Koongal, a suburb in the Rockhampton’s east, at 7.15pm.

A QFES spokesman said that the home was fully involved in flames when they arrived and that they were unable to save it.

“It’s collapsed in on itself, there isn’t much left,” a QFES spokesman said.

The blaze was extinguished around 8.20pm, although crews remained on scene throughout the night to “dampen down hotspots.”

It is understood that the single-level home had been vacant for some time.

Fire crews said that they initially thought the home had a second level because “when we arrived, the flames were a couple of metres above the roof.”

A crime scene has been declared as investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.

No one was injured.
