An arson investigation has been launched by Sunshine Coast police following a blaze that destroyed an Aroona home at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to the home on Tarver St, Aroona, about 8.20pm Saturday, August 12.

The Queensland Ambulance Service initially said there had been reports of people inside the house, but it was later confirmed that was not the case.

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said the home remained a crime scene and the fire was being treated as suspicious.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said fire investigators continued to assist police with the investigation.

No charges have been laid.

The neighbour next door to the destroyed home, Steve Claridge, was at a party and got home to a street full of police cars and fire trucks.

He was left speechless by the destruction of the house next door and said the blaze came close to his home.

“You can see that our downpipe is twisted and burnt so we’re very lucky it’s brick there,” he said.

Another neighbour, Max, said he could hear explosions from inside the home as the blaze took hold.

“The blokes (firefighters) had it under control,” he said.

“They knew what they were doing.”
