Family shocked to find carpet python wrapped around rear view mirror in Brisbane’s north

A family was in for the shock of their life after finding an unwelcome visitor in a very odd hiding place in their car.

One Brisbane family experienced a shocking end to their otherwise relaxing picnic as they returned to their car to find an unwelcome visitor in a very odd spot.

The family headed out for a picnic earlier this week in Brisbane’s north, leaving their car windows down slightly to keep the car cool.

But on their return, they were shocked to find a massive coastal carpet python wrapped around their rear view mirror.

The family called on Pete, a catcher from Josh Castle’s Snake Catching and Relocation, to safely handle the snake.

“It’s definitely odd to have one on the mirror,” Josh Castle, owner of the snake catching business, said.

“We get surprised almost every month with just more weird stuff.”

The snake was relocated in the 10km radius as per local laws, but Mr Castle said the family did the right thing by calling in backup.

“They bite, so it’s not recommended you try and execute it yourself, because if you do one wrong move you’ll get bit.”

Mr Castle said it was a mystery how the snake got into the car, but added he and his fellow catchers face strange situations every day.

“I’ve personally pulled a 2m carpet python out of the toilet, it doesn’t get much weirder than that.”
