Labor will contest the electorate of Fadden in a move set to appease local branch members despite the party knowing it doesn’t stand much of a chance.
It can be revealed Labor will open nominations for the federal seat of Fadden from Tuesday.
The seat of Fadden, made vacant by the retirement of controversial former frontbencher Stuart Robert, is a safe LNP seat.
There had been speculation Labor would not run a candidate for the July 15 by election, with the poll coming a month before the party’s first live national conference in years.
The national conference, to be held in Brisbane around the weekend of the Ekka, is set to be an important event for the Albanese government as it charts its course to the next election.
Labor’s Fadden candidate at the 2022 election was Letitia Del Fabbro.
