BRISBANE’S St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace has been forced to issue a statement condemning an “inappropriate” photograph referencing the death of US man George Floyd, which was shared on social media.
In the statement the school said it was aware of the post that was “generated by a small group of students.”
“We share in the community disappointment in regard to this,” the statement said.
“The actions of a small number of students in no way reflect the College’s values and explicit teachings.”
“We are treating the matter seriously and dealing with it as an absolute priority.”
The photo shows two boys in their school uniform captioned, “Rip george Floyd”, with one boy kneeling on the other boy’s neck.
The Courier-Mail has been told that the boy on the ground was not ‘re-enacting’ Mr Floyd’s death but rather is a victim of bullying.
The murder of Mr Floyd has ignited Black Lives Matter protests right across the US, the UK, France, New Zealand and Australia.
