An elderly man has been threatened with a pickaxe, brutally assaulted then had his car stolen from his home north of Brisbane this afternoon.

AN ELDERLY man has been threatened with a pickaxe, brutally assaulted then had his car stolen north of Brisbane this afternoon.
A 75-year-old man reportedly found the offender searching through his home in Newport about 4.40pm, who then threatened the man with a pickaxe, demanding his car keys.
When the 75-year-old refused, the offender punched him in the face and stole his 2016 silver Kia Carnival.
The car was reportedly spotted in a fuel theft incident in Gympie about two hours later.
It is believed the vehicle has significant damage at the rear.
Anyone who saw the car driving between Gympie and Redcliffe or who may have dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
