BAG a bargain at the Ekka. This year there are 400 different showbags on sale with prices ranging from the always popular budget-priced $2 Bertie Beetle blue bag to a $95 Lindt box of chocolates.
But almost a third of the bags will set you back $10 or less.
RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou said it was the RNA’s showbag providers who determined what bags would be at the Ekka each year and that they made their decisions based on consumer feedback; current trends and new TV and movie show bag products sourced from international licensing shows.
“One of our major operators Hunter Leisure attends the U.S. licensing show each year and upon their return bid for the latest licensed TV and movie show bags which they then sell at Ekka,” he said.
“Another operator C and C Marketing will introduce the new Pooch — showbag for your dog- and The Kitty -showbag for your cat — showbags at Ekka this year as result of customer feedback.”
During the Ekka, different bags are more sought after depending on the day and time.
“For example, the Sundays are big selling days for licensed show bags because that is typically when families visit the Show,” Mr Christou said. “And confectionary and chip bags sell well when teenagers are at Ekka in the afternoon and evening.”
