Eight fire crews are working to contain a large grass fire that has broken out across 300 acres, closing a major road with paramedics on standby in the Scenic Rim.
A large grass fire has broken out along Old Beaudesert Rd on the Beaudesert Boonah Rd in Wyaralong at around 2.15pm Thursday.
The fire has been burning for several hours, and will continue as crews work to contain the blaze.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said four rural fire and service vehicles, a rural fire senior officer and two tanks and a pump truck are on scene.
“It had started as a small grass fire, one road corridor approximately 10 to 15 acres and several spot fires in the area this was at 2.10pm. The fire continued to spread, pushing in a easterly direction,” a spokeswoman said.
The fire then spread and is understood to have been burning across 300 acres by 5.15pm.
“At 4.30 crews were able to stop the fire from jumping over the north side of the road.”
Waterbombing aircraft was brought in to assist ground crews at around 5pm Thursday.
“When it spread north there were homes over there but there is no mention of them being under threat,” a spokeswoman said.
“We have had aircraft water bombing to get that one under control and that finished around 5.15pm.”
It comes as a three-vehicle traffic crash delayed Beaudesert Boonah Rd reopening as crews worked to clear the scene.
“A road traffic crash happened in the area, which has delayed the opening of the highway,” a spokeswoman said.
“The fire has been brought under control due to water bombing, but we are still on scene, we are dampening it down but it will continue to burn.”
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were on standby.
