A house in a prestigious area of Samford Valley has been engulfed by fire.

Queensland Fire Department were called to a house at Currell Circuit about 12.20pm Monday, where a property was fully involved by flames.

At least eight fire crews were at the scene attempting to control the fire and gain entry to the property, while four ambulances were there on standby.

It is understood the fire started in the property’s garage, with about half of the single-storey brick and wood home engulfed by smoke and flames when emergency crews arrived.

By 2.25pm Queensland Fire Department crews were dampening hotspots.

Police have declared a crime scene.

Queensland Fire Department Enoggera Station officer Ben Bourke said upon arrival some of the structure was engulfed in flames.

“The initial attack was, we sent crews all external due to the power not being able to be isolated at the time,” he said.

“So we cut the fire off and prevented it to spread through the rest of the house. We saved about 50 per cent of the property, but also lost 50 per cent.

“The fire started in the garage, and that was completely overwhelmed with fire.”

Mr Bourke said there were four appliances and two rural appliances working to extinguish the blaze during the height of the fire.

“We had one appliance on top of the hill there,” he said.

“They made entry through the gate and were able to park the appliance there and gain water from the street.

“And we put the aerial appliance up just for aerial observation to give crews on the ground a bit of an insight where to head.”

During the blaze everyone that was home managed to escape.

“There was one person home at the time of the fire. They self evacuated and went to the neighbours’ house and called triple zero from there,” he said.

“On arrival all people were out, we made contact with them and knew they were all out.”

He said fire investigators were on scene and would investigate the cause of the fire on Monday afternoon and again on Tuesday.

“This property had fitted smoke alarms,” he said.

“So it’s a healthy reminder that smoke alarms save lives and ensure your batteries are checked annually.”
