Global superstar Ed Sheeran surprised the littlest of patients on Sunday at Queensland Children’s Hospital, where he performed some of his classics and took photos with critically ill kids.
Taking out time from his busy schedule Sheeran performed not only for the children but also for family members and hospital staff.
One lucky “concert goer” was six-year-old Mateoh Eggleton, who was diagnosed with chronic granulomatus disease in 2019 and has spent the majority of the past 3.5 years in hospital.
Shalyn Eggleton, Mateoh’s mother, said Ed visited many kids and played a few songs on the ward.
“Mateoh’s favourite song is Visiting Hours as it reminds him of all his friends that are in the sky above,” Ms Eggleton said.
The Courier Mail recently reported on Mateoh’s dying wish to host his sixth birthday party at Brisbane’s Area 51 surrounded by his friends, family and superheroes.
Ms Eggleton said the party was a desperate bid to ensure her “little warrior” got the party of a lifetime before a major surgery.
“This is likely to be his last birthday and doctors have told us to prepare for the worst,” she said.
The six-year-old’s mother said she was delighted Ed took the time to visit the hospital.
“He is such an incredible person to take time out of his tour to visit such critically ill children,” Ms Eggleton said.
“Mateoh was shy at first and didn’t want to meet him but that came around very quickly.”
Sheeran was to perform again on Sunday night, rounding out his three-concert stint at Suncorp Stadium as part of his Mathematics tour.
