Three road closures: Bruce Highway closed after fatal crash and truck fire; Logan road closed after serious crash

Three children have been hurt, one critically, after a serious crash at Logan this afternoon. It comes after parts of the Bruce Highway were closed after two separate incidents — a truck fire and a fatal crash.

PART of the Bruce Highway is closed after a truck was destroyed by fire. It comes after a driver died on a separate section of the Bruce Highway early this morning and three children were hurt in a crash at Logan this afternoon.

The B double truck fire happened about 10km south of Sarina, near Mackay, about 3.30pm.

The highway was closed in both directions, with traffic diversions in place.

The driver managed to escape without injury.

LOGAN CRASH: CHILDREN HURT, ROAD CLOSED

Three children have been taken to hospital, one in a serious condition and one in a critical condition, following a two-vehicle crash in Logan Central this afternoon.

Paramedics responded to the call about 2.20pm and assessed six patients, of which three were children and three were adults, at the intersection of Chambers Flat Rd and School Rd.

Queensland Ambulance Service said a baby boy sustained serious chest injuries while a female child suffered critical head injuries.

Another male child sustained minor facial injuries.

Police said two children were aged under 5.

All three children were taken to Queensland’s Children Hospital.

An adult female was taken to Logan Hospital with suspected spinal injuries but police later described this as “for observation”.

Another adult male and female - the two drivers of the vehicles - were not injured and declined transportation.

MOTORCYCLIST SERIOUSLY HURT

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital after a crash near Ipswich this afternoon.

The crash happened near the corner of Lanes and Coopers roads at Ebenezer about 1pm.

The patient was taken in a serious but stable condition to Princess Alexandra Hospital.

DRIVER IN HORROR BRUCE HIGHWAY CRASH

A driver has died and a section of the Bruce Highway was closed after a horror smash south of Townsville this morning.

A sedan and a prime mover truck were involved in the two-vehicle crash near Alligator Creek at 4.50am today.

Queensland Ambulance Service attended one patient — a 28-year-old Cloncurry man, who suffered critical injuries and later died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 38-year-old Cannonvale man, was not injured but was taken to hospital for observation.

The Highway was closed shortly after the crash near Killymoon Creek and police advise it was scheduled to reopen around 10am while the Forensic Crash Unit continues their investigations.

The local community have taken to social media to express their grief that the treacherous stretch of highway has claimed another life.

“They need to do something about that Killymoon Creek,” Jayne Matthews said on Facebook.

“How many lives has it taken already.

“Fix the bloody thing … straighten the f----en road main roads someone!!!!!!!!

“NOW BEFORE SOMEONE Else DIES!!!!,” she said.

“Not good — yes too many have died there,” Paula Hurst said.

Three fatal accidents have rocked the Alligator Creek community in less than a year.

Two of those have come in the past three weeks.
