THE mother of two people killed after the Thunder River Rapids raft flipped at Dreamworld yesterday says her “whole family has been wiped out” by the tragic accident.

Kim Dorsett, mother to ride victims Kate Goodchild and Luke Dorsett, told The Courier-Mail last night her family visited Dreamworld after deciding to extend a holiday to Queensland from Canberra for a few extra days.

“We are just devastated, absolutely devastated,” she said.

“I have three children and have lost two of them today – my whole family has been wiped out.

“I have two granddaughters – an eight-month-old and a 12-year-old – and it truly breaks my heart to know that my eight-month-old is never going to get to know her mum.”

Ms Dorsett said her granddaughter was distraught.

“I’ve been with her all afternoon and all night and she has gone to stay somewhere else,” Ms Dorsett said.

“Like me, she is still coming to terms with it all but she is completely devastated – she is blaming herself for what has happened.

“She has had a truly terrible day, she is going through unimaginable pain at the moment. I’m at a loss as to how to deal with this now – I woke up this morning with three children and tomorrow I am only going to have one left.”

The Canberra-based mother, who was holidaying on the coast with her children, described them as “wonderful people”.

“They really were just wonderful people – that would be the best way to describe them,” she said. “They were kind, loving souls that would honestly do anything for anyone.

“We are all still in a state of shock. I’m fortunate to have my brother and his wife around to help deal with this whole thing, which has just been devastating.

“I’d also like to stress that I couldn’t be more impressed with how police have handled this situation today – they have made this situation as comfortable as it possibly could be.”
