A woman has rushed her dog to surgery after the pup suffered “severe injuries” from an escalator at a Gold Coast Bunnings.
Lisa Sinclair was walking into Bunnings at Burleigh Heads with her Chihuahua Chelsea when she heard the pooch scream.
“I thought this might be a nice thing for Chelsea and I, we can go and explore a Bunnings we’ve never been to before,” she said.
“I had her on her lead and she was beside me and we were on the travelator going up, then I went to step off and I thought she would follow me because she’s trained really well.”
“As I went to step off I said ‘come on Chelsea’. I heard screaming, I turned around and quickly picked her up and blood started coming out everywhere.”
The pup had to have her back middle paw pad on her right side amputated and her front left foot also suffered severe injuries.
“They rushed her out the back and I waited and whilst I was waiting I asked to speak to the manager of that store and he said they aren’t really responsible for paying for my vet bill,” Ms Sinclair said.
“They said I’d have to lodge a complaint online through compensation. I thought it would take a long time to get the money back from the vet bill (so) I explained to him I’m not working, I’m living off a couple hundred dollars a week and it’s hard to even buy food.”
Ms Sinclair’s vet bills so far are up to $510.’
Bunnings Acting Area Manager Dean Nantes said he was sorry to hear of the incident.
“We were sorry to hear that an incident involving a customer’s dog happened at our Burleigh Waters store over the weekend,” he said.
“We have been liaising directly with this customer to offer support and are working towards a resolution.”
