A Brisbane-based building company that has taken on $10 million worth of projects since July has been plunged into administration in the latest construction firm to hit financial woes.

Signs such as “pay up ya flog” have been scrawled across at least one building site.

Administrators were last week appointed for DC Living Pty Ltd, trading as Living Homes VIC and Living Homes QLD, triggering claims subcontractors are owed thousands of dollars.

Documents lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission listed the company’s directors as Hugh William Bridle of Bardon and Angelo Phillip Augostis, of Alexandra Hills.

Daniel Quinn and David Stimpson of SV Partners were appointed as administrators with a creditors meeting set for next week.

Further ASIC documents show that 90 per cent of the company is owned by HWB GROUP HOLDINGS Pty Ltd, directed by Mr Bridle.

According to the Queensland Building and Construction Commission, DC Living had its low rise builder licence cancelled on February 2 with a “contractor request” listed as the reason why.

DC Living, based out of Fortitude Valley, had 29 jobs during the 2023/2024 financial year at a value of $10 million, a QBCC licence search of the company read.

It showed a stark drop off in work completed by the company in the two financial years from 2020 to 2022, which showed DC Living took on more than 160 jobs worth about $62m.

The company won three Housing Industry Association Queensland building awards, according to its website.

“Founded in 2015, we are born and bred Queensland home builders with a deep passion for designing and constructing quality homes for the greater Brisbane market,” its website read. “Our step-by-step approach to home building ensures a simple and seamless journey to new home ownership.“

Tradie Ashton Close told News.com.au that he had been left out of pocket by more than $25,000, which they labelled as a “disgrace”.

It comes following the voluntary administration of national construction giant St Hilliers, which led to several Queensland projects including a Townsville health facility being stalled.

At least seven small businesses in the construction sector collapsed last week, including a 20-year veteran who owed nearly $300,000.

It prompted a warning from Master Builders Queensland chief executive Paul Bidwell who said the industry was under “immense pressures”.

Several attempts were made to contact Mr Bridle and Mr Augostis.
