Aussie Rules: Former Dalby Swans junior Zimmorlei Farquharson is in the middle of playing a staring role for the AFLW Queensland U18s team.

The side is in the midst of the national championship, with Zimmorlei named amongst the best in both of Queensland's first-round matches against Western Australia.

The 16-year-old is the youngest player in the squad, and her father Geoff is proud Zimmorlei has made a good account of herself so far.

"I'm very happy she is getting noticed in a losing side which can be hard to do sometimes,” Farqurharson said.

"They've put in good team efforts, but were getting beaten by a better team.”

Queensland went down to Western Australia in their first couple of games of the tournament, but Geoff is sure this won't phase the girls.

"AFL is the state sport in Western Australia; they have a massive player pool to work with.

"Queensland has a lot of other sports vying for the young athletes in the state.”

The Queensland U18 team also features Dalby girl Jessi Henning, who currently plays her football in Brisbane.

The side play their third game of the championships today against Victoria Country at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast.

On Wednesday they tackle Victoria Metro at Broadbeach before playing Eastern Allies on Friday.

Zimmorlei will be hoping her form holds strong so she can repeat her 2017 honours, when she awarded the MVP and Player of the Series accolades during the U16 Queensland Academy Championships.

Zimmorlei currently plays her club football for the Calamvale Leopards.
