Dalby residents are being warned to take extra security precautions as police hunt for the offenders behind a major spike in thefts and property-related crime in the past week.

Thieves have been targeting homes across the Dalby area in search of money and other valuable items, with close to a dozen streets hit in the past few days alone.

Dalby Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Terry McCullough said that the weekend in particular had seen a significant increase in break-ins, which was unusual for the town.

“They only seem to be looking for money, money has been stolen,” he said.

Sergeant McCullough said there was camera evidence of one of the attempted thefts, but police were still encouraging anyone with additional footage to come forward.

“The CCTV footage showed only one person but there could be more. We’ve been going to the scenes today,” he said.

Streets targeted over the weekend include Curtis, Hall, Nicholson, Cunningham, and Drayton Sts and properties at the Pioneer Caravan Park and Dalby Tourist Park.

Homes on Millbrook St and Argyle Crt were also targeted on Friday night, and thieves attempted to break into another house on Solitaire Crt.

Sergeant McCullough said officers would not stop until they tracked down the culprits.

“Someone usually comes into town and runs hot until we catch them,” he said.

“We have all hands on deck. We’ve increased surveillance with CCTV, intel officers are working on it, detectives are looking and uniformed police are patrolling.”

He urged residents to ensure they locked doors, windows, and took any extra precautions to secure their properties.

“Anything that makes it more likely to get caught out like an outside light, dogs, cameras, anything to deter them will help,” Sergeant McCullough said.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
