Salter family take home three cattle judging titles

DALBY born and bred Charlie Salter was one step closer to his dreams last month when the cattle enthusiast won two categories at the Toogoolawah Junior Cattle Camp.

Charlie stood out from the crowd, being named first place in the intermediate category and grand champion prime cattle judge.

The Dalby State High School Year 9 student said the camp connected him with like-minded teens and professionals in the beef industry.

"Catching up with a few people and meeting a few people was good,” Charlie said. "I met a few stud producers from around Queensland.”

The four-day youth development cattle camp taught the youngsters all aspects of cattle judging, including parading and photography.

"We got to learn new skills and have different sessions with different people,” he said.

Surrounded by cattle since birth, the 15-year-old intends to continue the family tradition and work within the beef industry.

"The beef industry interests me and I enjoy working with cattle and doing all types of stuff with cattle,” Charlie said.

Charlie wasn't the only Salter to claim a victory

at the camp, with his younger sister Matilda winning the junior judging category.
