AFTER hundreds of votes were cast in Dalby’s Best Childcare Educator poll, we can finally reveal who was the hard earned winner for 2020.
Findlay Scougall was voted as Dalby’s best for her tireless efforts at Goodstart Early Learning in the last two and a half years.
Ms Scougall said it was “rewarding” to see those in her community appreciating her work in childcare education.
“I’m so happy to see that I’m making a difference in the children’s lives, and I’m making the parents happy in the process,” she said.
“It’s so nice to get that bit of appreciation.”
Born in Woolooga, Ms Scougall ventured to the Sunshine Coast for her high school years before settling in Dalby after her graduation in 2018.
While in year 10, she completed work experience at a childcare centre for a week, which ignited her love for early learning.
“I knew from my work experience that I just loved working with kids, and I knew this is what I wanted to do,” she said.
“I then received my certificate in high school, and after that I applied at Goodstart, and I’ve never looked back.”
For the young childcare educator, she remembers her kindy teacher Miss Tracy so vividly, and the special relationship she forged with her.
“I remember we painted together and played together, and I was so impacted by her as a child,” she said.
“I want to be that person to the children here, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised how she shaped me by teaching me to walk, and talk.
“And that’s what I want to do, I want to shape these children as their first years are so important in their development.”
Ms Scougall said having fun is always part of the job as well, and building relationships with her kids each day.
“It’s just the little things that make them happy and excited just makes it all worth it,” she said.
“When they come in to tell me about their pets, or their weekend, it makes it all worthwhile.”
