Police ranks boosted with arrival of new officers

Police ranks across Dalby and Chinchilla have had a boost with the arrival of new officers. Meet the team here.

The Western Downs region have added three new First Year Constables to their ranks helping to bolster policing in the area.

Two new FYCs joined the four current FYC officers at Dalby Police Facility, while Chinchilla welcomed one FYC to their division.

Sydney born Constable Emma Edbrooke joined the Dalby Police Facility from Brisbane after previously working in management.

Constable Dylan Butterworth also joined the Dalby Police Facility from Ipswich fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a police officer.

Meanwhile Constable Liam Peck starts at Chinchilla Police Station this week after leaving his role in the council’s landscaping and parks maintenance crew.

Of the 185 FYCs who have graduated from the academy so far this year, 75 percent have been stationed outside of the Brisbane Region.

Dalby Police Senior Sergeant Terry McCullough said there were six FYCs completing their first year training in the division and it was excellent that Dalby was so highly regarded as a place to learn and grow.

“We get first year officers several times a year and it enables us to build up the numbers in the area, they come out of the academy and agree to stay three years in the district,” Senior Sergeant McCullough said.

“Right now we have six first year constables in Dalby, once they finish their three years they can choose to stay on or they can apply elsewhere.

“Working in the region they get exposed to a greater range of policing and see matters from start to finish that police in the city generally won’t see.”

Senior Sergeant McCullough encouraged others to consider a career in policing.

“First year officers are well paid straight out of the academy, they get to help the community, there is a good work life balance and they also get to enjoy the comradery of the Queensland police family.”

Second-years officers that have recently graduated from the FYC program in Dalby have gone on to work in places such as Lockhart River, Miles and Fortitude Valley.
