Western Downs mother fined in Dalby Magistrates Court after threatening to run over child who was allegedly bullying her son

A Western Downs mother who reached her tipping point after her son was allegedly bullied for months made serious threats which caused a school to be put in lockdown.

A Western Downs mother has faced Dalby Magistrates Court after threatening to run down a student who was allegedly bullying her son.

A frustrated mother who threatened to run over a primary school student who was allegedly bullying her son has fronted the Dalby Magistrates Court.

The woman appeared in court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to one count of using a phone to menace and harass.

The court was told about 9.30am on November 25, 2024 the 31-year-old had called the Education Minister’s office to report the ongoing bullying her son had experienced at a Western Downs primary school.

The woman allegedly told the office the bullying had been going on for about 11 months and the school had done nothing to stop it. The court was told she then threatened that if it didn’t stop she would use her car to run over the student.

Following the threats the school was immediately placed into lockdown.

About 11am police attended the woman’s home where she admitted to making the threats and said she had reached a tipping point after her son was paired with the alleged bully on a school trip and had attempted to take his own life when he got home.

The court was told the boy and his two siblings had since moved schools.

When sentencing, acting magistrate Robert Turra acknowledged the woman’s complete lack of a criminal record and described the circumstances as “sad” and “extremely frustrating” but said these did not excuse her threats and “actions had consequences”.

For her offending the woman was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond of $500 and no conviction was recorded.
