A 27-year-old has been fined after a foolish decision to steal a beer tower from a Dalby pub.

Tyson John Bowden appeared in Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday pleading guilty to one count of stealing.

The court was told that on January 3, 2024, Bowden was drinking at the Criterion Hotel when he was captured on CCTV leaving the premises with an empty beer tower which he had previously ordered from the bar.

Shortly after he left Bowden allegedly stashed the tower in a nearby bush and said he planned to come back and collect it later.

Later that day Bowden had a change of heart and returned to the venue to give back the beer tower where he found police waiting for him.

When they interviewed him as to why he had stolen it Bowden told police “I thought it would be funny”.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne scolded Bowden for foolish decision.

“It’s disappointing conduct for an adult with two children, you made the active decision to steal it as well as stashing it to come back and get later,” she said.

“Just because you purchased the beer doesn't mean you can take the tower.

“To your credit however you did come back to return it and took responsibility for it when talking to police.”

Bowden was placed on a $800 six-month recognisance and no conviction was recorded.
