A mother-of-three who assaulted another woman in the middle of Dalby Shoppingworld has claimed she was fuelled by anger about a road rage incident between the pair more than a month prior.
Kayla Jade Peterson and her victim were both at the busy shopping centre on February 15 when the 23-year-old spotted and suddenly headbutted her victim.
Police prosecutor Derek Brady told the Dalby Magistrates Court that the 23-year-old’s attack sparked a fight between the two women, which was eventually broken up and Peterson was charged over the incident.
Sergeant Brady said that when Peterson was interviewed by police, she said she assaulted the other woman because they had been involved in a road rage incident on the Moonie Highway several weeks before their more violent confrontation.
Defence lawyer Michael Mchilenny told the court that his client was still “very upset” about her first interaction with her victim, and now acknowledged that she had reacted badly when she saw the woman again at the shopping centre.
He said Peterson had a clean criminal history and was looking to follow her mother-in-law in working with children with autism.
Peterson pleaded guilty to one count of common assault and was placed on a good behaviour bond for three months.
No conviction was recorded.
