A Pittsworth B-double driver was drunk behind the wheel of a five-tonne prime mover when he was swerving all over the roads, sparking calls to police from concerned motorists about his dangerous driving.

Jayhms Harlie Thompson’s boozy morning behind the wheel of a B-double was heard in Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where he was charged with driving over the middle alcohol limit.

Police prosecutor sergeant Derek Brady said police were notified by terrified motorists of Thompson’s erratic driving about 9.45am on May 6.

He told the court Thompson was intercepted between Westmar and Dalby after he was reportedly spotted “swerving” all over the road.

The court heard he was breath tested, and returned a reading of 0.104 roadside.

Representing himself, the 12-year truck driving veteran submitted a written statement to the court which detailed his personal circumstances surrounding the incident.

Magistrate Tracy Mossop said she was “well aware” what the road was like where he was intercepted, and said it was more “good fortune” that there was no serious accident.

She told Thompson that he “would’ve known” how over the limit he was after he drank a bottle of rum the night before.

Thompson pleaded guilty and was fined $650.

He was then disqualified from driving for six months.

A conviction was recorded.
