A 20-year-old man who fled Dalby Hospital with a hypodermic needle still in his arm before returning and going on a expletive-filled rant has been hit with a fine.

Jacob Alan Dixon faced Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to public nuisance following the incident on June 15, 2024.

The court was told about 7pm police were called to the Dalby Hospital after reports a highly intoxicated man had left the hospital with a needle still in his arm.

After a short search police found Dixon near a highway and returned him to the hospital to continue to be treated by staff.

When he returned Dixon became agitated after noticing his friend who had been with him at the hospital had left with his phone and wallet.

Dixon then launched into an expletive filled rant saying he was “f---king sick of this” and threatening to “smash” anyone who got in his way.

The court was told there was a family behind Dixon at the time who were frightened by his outbursts.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne told Dixon that his actions had “impacted the hospital’s staff and doctors as well as scaring young children” she also told him as a young man he should “set a good example for young children on how to behave”.

Dixon apologised for his actions and told the court he had apologised to the family he had scared.

He was issued a $500 fine and no conviction was recorded.
