‘Don’t tell anyone I’ve contacted you, I’ll go straight to lock up’: Man sentenced for blatant DV breach

A 20-year-old Western Downs man has found himself with a conviction after sending dozens of calls and texts while subject to a domestic violence order.

A Western Downs man has copped a spray from a magistrate after he incessantly contacted his ex-partner, and then begged them not to tell police.

The 20 year-old appeared in the Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to breaching a domestic violence order made on June 10, 2024.

The young man was not permitted to contact his ex-partner, but under a month later on June 29 he sent the aggrieved a text asking to Facetime.

She ignored the request.

The following week on July 5, he called them on a private number making requests to see his daughter.

In the call he said “don’t tell anyone I’ve contacted you, I’ll go straight to lock up”.

Between the hours of 11.50am and 1.53pm the man continued to text and call.

She complainant sent him one text, asking him to cease contact.

The court heard the texts became aggressive over time.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne described the offending as “appalling” and scolded the young man for his disregard for court orders.

“To message your ex-partner ‘do you even care about your daughter’ is shocking and controlling,” she said.

“Be under no illusion it is coercive control.

“You need to learn from this and think about who you want your child to look up to, you’re young and there is still time to learn.

“You are extremely lucky you haven’t been charged with something more serious like perverting the course of justice, by begging her not to go to the police.”

The man was fined $800.
