A man was left with a horrific facial injury after an Oakey offender struck him with a tool during a disturbing night-time attack on a quiet street.
Dalby Magistrates Court was told David Nicholas Carne brutally attacked the other man after a short dispute on June 8.
Police prosecutor Derek Brady said the victim went outside his home to confront Carne about revving his engine in the resident’s street.
Sergeant Brady said the 50-year-old Sydney-born Carne stopped his vehicle while the man approached the driver-side door, with Carne then striking the other man in the face with a jack handle before driving off.
The victim was left with a “significant cut” to his forehead, which required 10 stitches.
Nearly a fortnight later, Carne attended Dalby’s Criminal Investigation Branch, where he admitted to the assault.
The father told officers he attended the street to visit a mate who wasn’t home when he heard the victim yell at him, prompting the unprovoked attack.
Defence solicitor Claire Graham said the fencer planned to move to Victoria to look after his sick father-in-law.
Carne pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, and was sentenced to six months’ jail, suspended for 18 months.
He was also ordered to pay $500 compensation to the victim.
