The court has been told a 19-year-old who breached a domestic violence order had been told she could be at the property by her ex-partner’s parents.

Mikayla Cooper faced Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning, pleading guilty to breaching a domestic violence order and destruction of property.

The court was told that on January 6, 2024 Cooper attended the property of her ex-partner despite an order imposed in April of 2023 preventing her from being within 50m of the address.

While she was there an argument ensued over the pairs’ son at which point Cooper picked up a tool and smashed the left panel of his car causing $500 in damage.

Police then attended the property at 2.30pm finding Cooper in breach of her order.

Following the incident Cooper paid to have the car repaired which included fixing several dents in the vehicle’s panels.

Cooper also acknowledged that despite being told by her in-laws she was able to be at the property she should’ve checked the specifics of the order herself.

When sentencing acting magistrate Robert Turra took into account Cooper’s remorse in paying for the repairs of the car and fined her $500 for the breach of the order.

No conviction was recorded.
