A Dalby man who headedbutted and strangled his partner has been released on parole with time served.

Corey James Wilson, 33, appeared in the Dalby District Court on Thursday over audio-visual from prison where he had spent the last five months.

Wilson pleaded guilty to one count of strangulation, one count of common assault, two counts of contravening a domestic violence order and one count of unlawfully operating a vehicle.

The Crown told the court Wilson’s partner had asked him to travel from South Australia to Miles to help look after their kids where he arrived on February 28, 2024, in breach of his domestic violence order.

After Wilson arrived an argument broke out between the two in which his partner locked him outside the house where he slept on a trampoline overnight.

Wilson’s barrister Frank Martin told the court he had then entered the house the following morning and tried to make himself a cup of tea when his partner began berating him and pushing him towards the door.

She then told Wilson “he didn't know how to be a father” prompting him to headbutt her and strangle her for up to 30 seconds.

When sentencing Judge Horneman-Wren SC took into account Wilson’s criminal history in several states including NSW and South Australia.

For his offences Wilson was sentenced to two-and-a-half years suspended and was released on parole from prison with time served.
