A Dalby man was so “extremely intoxicated” he accidentally reversed into a shopfront after a boozy session on a Saturday night, a court has heard.

Adam Carl Shakespeare faced Dalby Magistrates Court charged with driving under the influence of liquor, and driving without due care and attention.

The court heard of Shakespeare’s sloshed drive into a closed Dalby business when police were called to a carpark at the corner of Drayton Street and Myall street about 9pm on April 10.

Police prosecutor sergeant Derek Brady said police found a security officer with Shakespeare standing near a Ford Territory that had been reversed into a business premises, adjacent to the car park.

The security officer said he witnessed Shakespeare reverse into the business’ front doors, with the defendant being identified by police as “extremely intoxicated”.

Shakespeare said he started the vehicle, revved it, and then put it into gear, which caused the car to reverse and enter the business.

The court heard he was tested for alcohol, with an analysis later returning a reading of 0.226.

Shakespeare represented himself, and said it was an extremely regretful act, stating he had been seeking support for alcohol.

He pleaded guilty and was fined $600 for driving without due care and attention, with a conviction recorded.

He was then convicted and fined $1000 for driving UIL, and disqualified from driving for 14 months.
