A Western Downs man who urinated on his grandchild’s booster seater and damaged the walls of his daughter’s home in a drunken rage has been hit with a conviction in the Dalby Magistrates court.

Aaron James Batchelor faced court pleading guilty to wilful damage after an incident on June 28.

The court was told Batchelor had been drinking since early in the morning and had consumed about 15 drinks when he attended his daughter’s home about 1pm.

An argument then ensued in the kitchen at which point Batchelor urinated on a booster seat sitting at the table as well as smashing a nearby wall.

His daughter then asked him to leave and called the police, at which point he threw a mobile phone at the wall, smashing it.

Batchelor was then detained by police as he tried to walk away from the home.

He later told police he was “blackout drunk” and didn't remember any of the incident.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne told Batchelor he needed to get a handle on his alcoholism which had been going on for a decade as it had impacted his relationship with his family who would not allow him contact with his grandchild.

Batchelor, who prior to being sentenced had sat in the public gallery waving, smiling and clapping at people he knew, became solemn when he was placed on a nine month probation order with a conviction recorded.
