DALBY State High School was a sea of pink on Friday when it hosted it's annual Pink Stumps cricket game to support breast cancer.

Pink Stumps was the brainchild of the McGrath Foundation as a way to raise much needed awareness and funds for a disease that impacts families nationwide.

Community groups, schools and cricket clubs organise games of cricket to be played whilst wearing the official colour of the McGrath Foundation.

DSHS Health and Physical Education teacher Cameron Miers is the man that brought the idea to the school three years ago, and it's gone from strength to strength since.

"We've got a goal of $1,000 because we raised about $950 last year,” Mr Miers said.

"But I think we'll smash that because we've had great support.

"The teachers were very excited with the idea, I don't even have to ask and twelve of them usually dress head to toe in pink.”

The match was contested between the students and the teachers, with many of the pupils keen to roll the shoulder over a bit quicker against the chiefs of the classroom.

Fielding rules were thrown out the window in the name of fun, with the students team having upward of 40 players on the ground at once.

With friendly banter flowing throughout the game, Mr Miers was just happy that everyone also acknowledged they were also playing for a deeper reason than being victorious.

"It's just a great way to raise awareness within the school and community.

"We've got nurses involved this year and the kids always look forward to it.”

Jason Caruso is the deputy principal of DSHS and was upbeat about the nature in which the game is played.

"Cam has done a great job with it and it just gets bigger every year,” Mr Caruso said.

"It's always good to have a win because we want the bragging rights for the next year.

"The teachers actually keep the score so we make sure we get the win every year (laughs).”
