AFTER the devastating fire from this morning that ripped through buildings at Dalby State School, principal Mona Anau has made the decision to close the school tomorrow.

In a statement made by Mrs Anau, she said the decision was made in the best interests of the community.

"Dalby State School will be closed tomorrow following a major fire that caused significant damage to facilities overnight,” Mrs Anau said.

"The decision to close tomorrow was made in the interests of student, staff and community safety.

"I have arranged for a number of staff to be on site tomorrow morning to ensure that any students who arrive at school can be returned home safely.”

The decision comes as the investigation into the suspected arson attack continues.

Mrs Anau said while the day has been devastating for the school, they will overcome this disappointment.

"This is devastating for us but our school is one of the hubs of the Dalby community and we are resilient and strong,” she said.

"We are a tight knit community that supports each other and we will get through this. Buildings can always be rebuilt.

However, naturally we are very disappointed and we will work hard with our community and with the Department to recover and get back to normal as quickly as possible.”

Schools are important community assets which need to be protected.

Dalby residents have been asked to report any suspicious activity they may have seen to police or contact the School Watch hotline 13 17 88.
